Size and framing

The map fits the whole US to the image whenever the size changes.

Map style

Drag to move the map, scroll to zoom, right-drag (or Ctrl + drag) to tilt and turn it.

Colors

Bands

Click a swatch to pick your own color for that band. Your colors are saved by value (for example -12 min) and used in every month that has that band.

Water and lines

Satellite and Night show the image's own water. Pick Flat gray or Dark to set the water color.

Water, line colors and line thickness are kept separately for each background.

Titles and band labels

Each slider moves one time label. Your setting sticks to that time (say -90 MIN) in every month that has it.

City labels

"Major cities (auto)" spreads the biggest cities across the map. Other presets replace your places, so save them first if you want them back.

City checklist

Tick a city to show it. Ticking switches to "I pick them".

Add your own places

Search for a town, then pick the right match. Your places show first and count toward the max.

The numbers

Daylight is sunrise to sunset: the moment the top edge of the sun meets the horizon, with normal atmospheric refraction, the same definition NOAA and timeanddate.com use. It depends on latitude and date only, so the bands run east to west. Clock changes (daylight saving time) shift sunrise and sunset but don't change the amount of daylight.

Refreshing the page (F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R) also starts fresh. Opening the page from a link or bookmark brings back your last settings. Presets you saved are always kept.
